MCW-Digital Wireless Discussion System

Transmission
The Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum transmission (DSSS) features a high noise immunity and is safe against unauthorised listening. In contrast to a conventional RF transmission with one carrier frequency, DSSS will transmit a complete frequency spectrum. This frequency spectrum cannot be interfered over the whole frequency range and as this frequency spectrum is within the ever present signal noise it cannot be detected either. The bidirectional, fully digital transmission is in the 2.4 GHz frequency range. The conference system can be used world-wide without any special permission or regulation by the authorities. The digital audio quality corresponds to that of a CD and allows to reproduce data that are distorted during the transmission. This means an audio reproduction without any noise or crackling.

Safety
When it comes to safety we do not make any compromises. Especially when the conference system is used in board or non-public meetings. In addition to the DSSS process, there are more safety features. The digital audio signal is not just transmitted, but there is another exactly defined code added. Thus a new digital signal for the transmission is produced that cannot be detected by a third party. The digital data encryption guarantees a maxium safety against unauthorised listening. If a microphone unit is stolen for listening, the security mode of the control unit ensures that only microphone units can be switched on that are released for the discussion by the operator. All other microphone units are not recognized and automatically switched off. In addition to all communication protocols and codes, it is possible to adjust the receiving and transmitting power. Therefore, the microphone units can be configured for use in one specific room.

Function
If the microphone button is pressed, the request-to-talk is received by the control unit (LED of the microphone unit will illuminate red). Depending on the operation mode of the control unit the microphone unit is allocated a free transmission channel and the microphone is switched on or registered as request-to-speak. When the microphone is switched on, the red ring around the gooseneck of the microphone will illuminate and the LED in the housing will change from red to green. In the request-to-speak mode the red LED indicates the request-to-speak. If the maximum number of open delegate microphones is achieved (normally 3, max. 6), the microphone is only turned on when another microphone unit is switched off or when an automatic allocation is done via an external control (such as PC with controller software or media control system). The microphone units can be also operated in the automatic voice-controlled mode, Push-To- Talk (PTT) or override mode.

Microphone Units
The microphone units are equipped with a smartlink element to send the microphone signal and to receive up to 8 audio channels. The bidirectional data connection between microphone unit and control unit ensures that the microphone units can be monitored and allocated at any time. The microphone units are available with an integrated rechargeable battery. Depending on the participation in the discussion and the type of the microphone unit, the microphone units have an operating time of around 8 to 25 hours. Furthermore, the microphone units can be powered with an external power supply unit or the batteries can be recharged with a separate single charger connected to the multipin connection on the rear. As soon as the battery capacity is too low for operation a power LED will start to flash.

The battery status of each microphone unit can be indicated via the control unit. The Chairman’s microphone unit has three buttons. By pressing the microphone button the chairman can switch on his microphone unit anytime. Using the clear button he can switch off all delegate’s microphone units. The third button is an additional button, which can be programmed for another function: As priority button the activated delegate units can be muted temporarily or cleared. As function button for instance the light can be switched on or off in conjunction with a media control system or a Power Point Presentation can be started on your PC. Functions of the microphone unit such as RF transmitting/receiving power, loudspeaker volume etc. can be configured online. The configuration is done via PC by using the MCW-D Editor software.

Voting, Interpreting and Paging (MCW-D 200)
The microphone units with display and function buttons can be used for voting or interpreting applications. By using the function button it is possible to vote or to select a foreign language channel in international meetings and to adjust the headphone level. For voting you need a special software. Results can be displayed on a computer screen, a separate large screen or in the display of the microphone units. Voting can be an opinion poll, multiple choice or parliamentary vote.

Control
The standard MCW-D 200 control unit contains 5 smartlink modules. Each smartlink module represents a transmitting and receiving component. Three of the five receiving channels are for the allocation of the delegate units, one channel is for the chairman unit and one is a communication channel. There are 5 transmitting channels for interpreting applications. The control unit can be extended with three more smartlink modules. As a standard the MCW-D 50 control unit is equipped with three audio channels. The audio signals of all active microphone units are joined and reproduced via the unit loudspeaker or a sound contracting system. With additional modules the audio outputs can be monitored separately. The number of microphones is unlimited.

Operation
The MCW-D does not need an operator after a configuration with the MCW-D Editor software before the first operation. As an option the MCW-D can be controlled and configured using the “MCW-D Controller” software under Windows® with a PC or touchscreen monitor. The graphical operating surface is programmed according to the customer’s desires. Using the integrated designer tool the user himself can create seat orders. The operation can be also done with a media control unit via the RS 232 interface. Each microphone unit can be switched on and allocated remotely. The functions are controlled and monitored.

Network
The control unit opens up new possibilities for remote monitoring, control and configuration. In addition to the serial RS 232 interface, there is an Ethernet network connection available which can be activated via the TCP/IP protocol.
